Scandinavian Syntax

This is a very general, data-centered introduction to the syntax of the modern Scandinavian languages. Required reading, made web-accessible before the start of the course, will include a piece written by Holmberg & Platzack as a general intro for comparative purposes:

  1. the inflectional systems (mostly case and agreement)
  2. V2 and the embedded/main clause distinction
  3. Object shift and subject positions
  4. Noun phrase structure
  5. The connections among 1-4 above, especially with reference to the Mainland Scandinavian/Icelandic divide
